12 Philosophies of Love: Taurus, Gemini, Cancer (Part 2 of 4)
4. Taurus & The Code of Physical Chemistry
Nosediving into the cloud of a lover’s natural perfumes, the raw feel of succulent flesh, the sound of whispered erotica or a masterfully created concerto, the taste of an aged Sauvignon during foreplay, the view of a naked body’s finely chiseled hourglass afterwards….The lightning that strikes through the skin’s capillaries when any of the above occurs with just the right mate. What would love be without any of that?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we must be mentally in sync and have parallel values. But we are, after all, incarnate vessels. Is anything — especially something as intangible as love — real until it is carnal?
Unless the Universe anoints a coupling with the elusive physical chemistry that can’t be faked or concocted — should you really be together?Thank Taurus for the alchemy that’s cemented love sagas for centuries. Stronger than Leo’s fleeting lust and more grounded than Scorpio’s obsession, Taurus’ gift of chemistry can keep lovers returning to each other again and again. This Fixed Earth essence known for solidity, strength, and practicality lives not by the ideal of love but by the remnants of it that poke their way into reality. What the Taurus drive contributes to the Culture of Amour is carnal evidence — that is, evidence of love that our senses can feel, taste, touch, hear, and see.
Dante would put carnal attraction in Hell — on the 2nd rung of the Inferno to be exact. But Dante is far more pessimistic and droll than Taurus.
For Taurus love, sensuality is not cheap skin videos, bawdy lyrics, or easy one-night stands. That would be sin. Ruled by Venus like Libra, Taurus shares Libra’s persnickety need for elevation. A realist, he doesn’t push it to the extreme of being idealistic, but Taurus must indulge only in a physicality that is of the finest quality and grand. Not dime store liquor. Fine wine. Not quick sex in the back seat, but a slow, lingering evening in a luxurious hotel.
Sensuality in contemporary society is a lost art that would make Taurus weep. And surely love lives suffer from the downgrade, which has abused and maligned our desire for sensory treats.
Unlike Scorpio who can appreciate any sensation whether dark or light, pain or pleasure, Taurus’ call to love is a mandate for pleasure only. It will avoid pain and risks at all costs and so moves cautiously, slowing until it is certain that the end result will be pleasure.
5. Gemini. & the Yin Yang Ideal
From the Twins have we been given a theory of Love that is based on duality. The idea that two opposing natures must dwell together. Hard-soft. Hot-cold. Extrovert-Introvert. Giver-receiver. Submissive-Dominant (oh, I’m sorry I think I’ve wandered into a Scorpio dungeon by mistake.)
The Yin- Yang ideal celebrates the constant exchange of conflicting energy, a tribute to the phenomenon that Gemini endures in its own head.. With Gemini being quick and fast moving, the dynamics in a true yin-yang bond are constantly shifting — like an blood infusion from one person to another — renewing, balancing, keeping the bond alive and the participants on their toes by necessity.
No matter how many similarities sew a bond together, without the tension between yin and yang it’s a weak and energy-sapping existence. Gemini knows that where there is friction, at least there’s energy being generated.
It should not be boiled down to simply fitting together flesh puzzles, for Gemini, being air, celebrates intangible clashes: whether via conversation, social atmosphere or mind-bending games of psyche.
While male-female unions represent an obvious yin-yang, notice that same sex unions also evolve to entertain opposing roles because such duality is the natural truth of love.
6. Cancer & Maternal Love.
Overprotective, watchful, and overly giving by nature, Cancer is obviously known for its sacrificial and pure maternal love, which needs no explanation here.
What’s interesting is how romantic love naturally adapts the Cancerian essence and finds gratification in sexualizing the Madonna. Oedipus, the Greek hero known for falling in love with his mother and killing his father, knows this inescapable and compelling lust. The mock suckling of breasts in the throws of passion … the sense of the labia or “love mound” as an entrance to a warm, safe womb, the female significant other as nest keeper and guard — all are inextricably a part of emotional longings for a bit of mothering in sexuality.
