Am I the only one who thinks a sex bed in a temple is really appealing?

Am I the only one who thinks a sex bed in a temple is really appealing?

On Oprah today, a young girl who used to belong to a religious polygamist cult talked about there being secret beds in the temple for consummation. Oprah acted like it was some shameful discovery. The woman said “I saw them. It was very sad.” Now, I don’t want to talk about the Warren Jeffs cult. That was crazy and evil (not because of beliefs or age, but because it restricted knowledge and independent choice)… but getting beyond that …. a sex bed in a religious temple seems like a beautiful thing to me. Can you imagine getting married and then having everyone leave so you can consummate the relationship at the altar? OMG. That is super super spiritual to me (& erotic, I won’t lie). I mean… sex is not evil or dirty or demonic (even though I know the Dalai Lama recently said sex always leads to trouble and said abstinence was mentally and spiritually better. He lies!). Isn’t sex a blend of the physical and the higher...

Prince’s “Starfish and Coffee” — An Analysis

Prince’s “Starfish and Coffee” — An Analysis

My sobriquet — “Synthia Rose” — is derived from the Prince classic “Starfish & Coffee,” which for more than 15 years has been my personal anthem of nonconformity in this hyperconformist world. An Analysis : NOTE: For those unfamiliar with the song, it might help to first read the lyrics below first. I had listened to this seemingly simplistic and whimsical song for years without truly deciphering its meaning. Then one day, as a sophomore in college, I was sitting in my dorm room feeling forlorn and misunderstood because my off-center views infuriated everyone. My beliefs on relationships, race, sex, the Divine, and everything seemed to be just left of mainstream. Then, the underlying message of the song crystallized for me and I was caught up in a swooning epiphany that still dazzles me to this day. At that moment — With the Sign of the Times album playing casually in the background, “Starfish and Coffee” — with it’s jarring alarm bell – needled into my thoughts and gave...

Free Your Mind

Free Your Mind

Artist Max Roakie did this in the early 1990’s for the Indiana Daily Student. My heart nearly stopped when I saw it. It was life changing for me. I clipped it out of the newspaper and I’ve had it framed in my possession ever since. (Blog originally posted...

Rediscovering THE IMMORTAL

Rediscovering THE IMMORTAL

I’ve always felt the spirit of “god” but grew up with no religion. In college, in my search to understand this Divine power and Creator I sensed, I explored religion (The Baha’i Faith, Islam, etc) and accepted Christianity. Got baptized, threw away all my Prince music. (twice). And was extremely devout. But at my heart, I’ve always searched for truth. I began to notice the puppet-like behavior of people in church around me and I felt I was being brainwashed. People would say amen together, stand and clap together, praise god in the same way, etc. It was just a bit too robotic for me. And after research I began to question the origin of the Bible. So I left organized religion, believing I have inside me everythng necessary to understand the Divine… and that the search is between me and the Divine and no one else. I like my free form search/spirituality much better. Was there a set of beliefs that made you disagree with organized religion? I...

For Those Who Falter & Search for Heroes …There is Always THE SUPER SELF.

“Someone told me Love would all save us. But how can that be? Look what Love gave us: A World full of killing and blood-spilling that won’t ever gain. And they say that a Hero could save us — I’m not gonna stand here and Wait. ” — Chad Kroeger, “Hero.” SELF and a life specially calibrated for self … is of the highest value to any human being. To live for others and rank others above self is deplorable and denigrates everything that the Universe has bestowed upon you. Here’s the reason: Self is the only thing you can give to the world. You are the one with your gifts and your ideas. Your will and your passions, intuition, and instinct. You must follow them. Nature has allowed you to spontaneously arrive on Earth for this moment with everything that is inside you. When we start thinking what do others want me to do? What does God think I should say? , blah, blah — then we become...

Suicide as Defiance and Self-Empowerment.

When I was 20, my first boyfriend — my childhood love– killed himself. He was frozen in time at age 28 forever. I remember being fascinated at how one contemplates such an act of snuffing his own life. This life whose initial generating spark remains so preciously elusive that scientists still can’t duplicate it (only mimick it with cloning and DNA modification). What is it like the second right before you pull the trigger? And feeling the rushed exit of blood and spirit…. ! Do you try to come back in the final millisecond? I can’t imagine what the experience is like. I didn’t begrudge him or despise him for the act. He was larger than life. He wanted to live on his own terms and he exited exactly that way. I know for most weaker people, suicide is an escape, a surrender, a testament that Life has beaten you. But there are some who, like a captured spy with ready poison, use it as a final valiant gesture...

Scorpio Living With No Earth Planets

Scorpio Living With No Earth Planets

So, I was reading an article on Inferior Functions yesterday which examined the natal chart of Marilyn Monroe, who was a sex goddess and master of sensuality (an earthy quality). In reality, she suffered from an absence of earth planets in her natal chart, subsisting mostly on the astrology elements of air and water. Contrary to popular thought, Marilyn Monroe was not fixated on the flesh and its pleasures — she was secretly all thought (air) and emotion (water)! Consequently she was sort of lost …and well, we know her fate. This was startling to me!! And I looked at my natal chart and found I have no Earth planets either …and though my Ascendant is in the Earth sign of Capricorn…. because ascendants are “masks,” this is sort of a facade…it suggests to the world I’m really grounded, when I’m not. So, all my life on the outside (via my ascendant) I’ve been very competent, conservative and traditional — but inside the real me has been such a...
